And I Know Things
A Spoiled Shakespearean Watches Game of Thrones
Okay, so I said I would be back to analyze GoT Episode 1.3 on July 10, 2019. Then life happened and now it is, umm, June 2022. Oops.
Like many other things--two novels, a Shakespeare podcast, a woodcarving hobby--this blog is a project born of enthusiasm and abandoned when life got too busy. Such is ADHD. But I've been hanging with some new fantasy nerd friends lately, and it seemed like it was time to come back to it. I petered out originally because I couldn’t find anything to say about S1E3, “Lord Snow,” and I felt some kind of subconscious obligation to write a post about every episode. It took me re-watching the episode about 4 different times over the course of the last three years to realize that I could just…not write about it. And I felt like starting this blog again. So I did. This post covers episode 1.2 of Game of Thrones. It carries a content warning for--in alphabetical order--animal cruelty, classism, misogyny, murder, racism, and rape. And on that cheery note...
Hey folks! Apologies for the long delay since my last post. I'll try not to end up doing another accidental long hiatus, at least not for awhile. This post carries content notes for rape and racism.
Hello! This is the first episode post in my Game of Thrones blog. This post carries a content note for rape, injury leading to disability, and assorted forms of violent death and gore. The episode posts will not be internally chronological, because I think it would get really tedious to go through it all in order rather than just talking about what I am interested in.
If you haven’t seen the intro post, go check that out first if you’d like. Basically, what makes this particular GoT blog special is that 1)I’m watching the show knowing all the major spoilers, starting with the first episode the day after the finale and 2)I’m a Shakespeare specialist, both scholar and director. This post is in two parts, the first my reactions upon seeing the show and the second after I spoke to my best friend, Mary, who has read the books and seen all of the show. |
